Building in public isn’t just about sharing revenue numbers or tweeting daily updates. Done right, it turns your journey into a powerful growth engine—attracting customers, investors, and collaborators who believe in what you’re building. But done wrong? It can feel like shouting into the void or, worse, exposing weaknesses with no upside.
TODAY’S TIP
ENGAGEMENT
Sharing Your Journey the Right Way

Start by getting clear on your why. Are you aiming to build credibility, attract early users, or document lessons for future founders? Your goals will shape how you share. Instead of random updates, craft a narrative—your struggles, breakthroughs, and insights should feel like a story people want to follow.
Next, make it a two-way conversation. Sharing isn’t enough; you need engagement. Ask for feedback, involve your audience in decisions, and turn followers into participants. “Which logo do you prefer?” is good. “What’s one feature you’d love to see in a product like this?” is better. People love to support what they help shape.
Honesty is key, but don’t mistake transparency for oversharing. People respect vulnerability, but they follow resilience. Instead of saying, “We lost a big customer, and it sucks,” reframe it: “Here’s why we lost a big customer—and what we’re doing to prevent it next time.” Share lessons, not just losses.

Accomplish More. Juggle Less.
When you love what you do, it can be easy to take on more — more tasks, more deadlines, more hours – but before you know it, you don’t have time to do what you loved in the beginning. Don’t just do more – do more of what you do best.
BELAY’s flexible staffing solutions leverage industry experience with AI systems to increase productivity without sacrificing quality. You can accomplish more and juggle less with our exceptional U.S.-based Virtual Assistants, Accounting Professionals, and Marketing Assistants. Learn how with our free ebook, Delegate to Elevate, and leave the more to BELAY.
Consistency is what keeps people hooked. If you only post sporadically, your audience won’t stay engaged. Create a rhythm—weekly updates, behind-the-scenes insights, or milestone reflections. The more regularly people see your journey unfold, the more they’ll root for you.
But transparency doesn’t mean sharing everything. Some details—financials, internal struggles, or competitive strategies—should stay private. Focus on sharing the why and how behind your decisions, but don’t let public pressure dictate your moves. The goal isn’t to perform; it’s to build trust and momentum.
Building in public works when it’s intentional. Done right, it attracts the right people, strengthens your brand, and creates a community that genuinely wants to see you win.
